Life Lately: June 2023
Summer is officially here, and I am ready for it! I’ve been thinking a lot about our relationship to the “things” we care about - particularly our goals and our time. This is the third summer that I’ve been in the recovery process from a major orthopedic surgery. That means that it’s the third time I’ve had to drastically change my relationship with what I imagine summer to feel like and the goals I have for the season. It’s hard to not become unbalanced when we are in a more difficult season of life - and, it’s a must to develop systems to support yourself through it. It’s also important to remember that your system looks different from my system, which looks different from your friend’s system, and so on.
For me, as I felt myself becoming increasingly ungrounded, I sat down to write out my summer wellness routine. Each ritual on the list represents something that I know will make me feel more balanced. I shared The Summer Game through Central Mass Mom, and it’s reminding me of the importance of making the little moments count. I set up my Streaks App for the first time since my surgery and strapped on my Apple watch. Movement and daily activities look different right now, but you better believe I’m getting Peloton credit for my physical therapy exercises now. Getting back to a state of organization is also feeling really good. And, I’ve started to build in some fun. We had our neighbor friends over for a pizza party in the backyard, others for an impromptu dinner party, an early morning coffee with a friend, among a handful of other moments that felt good.
Finally - I have been working on a few things that I’m really excited about. The first, was a re-brand of the local moms group I run, now called MamaConnect. The group is growing fast, and I’m excited to bring together more women for meaningful conversations throughout the year.
The second, is that I’m launching two group coaching cohorts this fall. The BUILD Cohort will bring together a small group of MA-based entrepreneurs, small business owners, and creators who are building the businesses of their dreams. Through capacity-building support, intentional coaching, and a supportive community - this group will see their businesses flourish and grow. The second is the WORKING MOMS Cohort, focused on moms who work full-time outside of the home and have goals that they want to create space for - whether it’s spending more time on their creative endeavors, prioritizing their well-being, or working towards a more balanced life - it’s going to be a supportive community of women who will go deep with one another.
Lastly: I have extremely limited 1:1 client openings starting in July/August. I don’t expect to bring on any more 1:1 business/executive or life coaching clients until at least January 2023, so if you’ve been thinking about working with me - now is the time! You can schedule a call to learn more here. I continue to have one-time sessions available on specific issues, which can be booked directly here.
With that, here’s what’s been happening this month.
Reading/Watching/Listening
I’ve continued to read a lot throughout my surgery recovery. The ones I definitely recommend for most people are in bold: Hidden Valley Road, Romantic Comedy, Where Are The Children Now, The Only Survivors, Crying In H Mart, A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder, Happy Place, Tiny Beautiful Things, Inner Peace for Busy Women, Atlas of the Heart, Pineapple Street, The Push, I Have Some Questions For You, Transformational Coaching, and The Soulmate.
I had the immense joy and gift of having my three best friends stay with my for a couple weeks to support me in the recovery (100% my highlight of late May/early June). We watched a lot together, but I’ll highlight a few favorites: Ticket to Paradise, Your Place or Mine, Ultimatum, and Drink Masters. I’ve just started the new season of The Bear, finished Abbott Elementary, and tonight will finish Succession (I went slow, since I really don’t want it to be over).
What I’m Loving
As I alluded to earlier, I am obsessed with organization. For the past several years I’ve been using The Day Designer, and my new copy just arrived. I love that they have really great free printables available for anyone to use - be sure to check them out, they are good. While I wasn’t able to join, my kids recently went to Jam Time in Maynard. If you’re local and need a fun place on a rainy day (which seems like most days recently), this is an awesome spot. For my physical therapy, I’m just starting to get on the bike again, and had no idea that you could buy conversion kits for the peloton. Since it’ll still be a while before I am riding with Cody and Ally and Tunde, I will be doing scenic rides thanks to the pedal and seat converter I just picked up.
As always, I’ll close with this. We planted two blueberry bushes and two peach trees, which I’m excited for! I’m hard at work at several other things on this list, so as always - will share more as I move towards completion. Less than a year to go before my next list will begin!
