Life Lately: September 2022

On a recent family hike.

What a month! September was quite the whirlwind: my kids turned 3 and 1, I went on my first solo work trip, our family went through COVID, I led a 14-day challenge, and we went on a family vacation. Plus, the million little things in between. While writing that seems like a lot it also seemed like we were back to normal (minus the 10 days of illness) for the first time in a long time. And that certainly feels like a gift.

We spent the first week of September on Cape Cod, my favorite place in the world. It has been made even more special by spending my daughter’s birthday there every year. While the trip felt exhausting in the moment, it was rejuvenating. My absolute favorite part? I spent two hours on the beach one day without the family, and for a few precious moments I was absolutely alone without another person in sight. I can still feel myself floating out on the water with my eyes closed. It was incredibly peaceful, and the type of moment I try to go back to when the going gets rough.

As we near the end of the month, I’m also feeling an immense amount of gratitude for getting through covid safely as a family. While it can be so easy to feel annoyed by the continued protocols and the desire for it to just go away, it is so important to remember how devastating of a disease this can be. We each got hit differently and it is a reminder of how important it is to take it seriously and watch out for others. With that, here are a few reflections from the month:

Watching/Reading/Listening: I read several books this month, including Book Lovers and The Hotel Nantucket (awesome beach reads) as well as The House Across the Lake (moving into spooky season). In the spirit of the season, I completely binged the Devil in Ohio and Sins of our Mother, started Dahmer, and as always, am loving Halloween Baking Championship. And I can’t believe in the next few days, I’ll be watching Hocus Pocus 2. I cannot wait!

Seasonal Reset Challenge: This month I created my second ever self-coaching challenge, this time focused on resetting our goals and ourselves for a new season. It ran for fourteen days, and has felt SO good. The feedback I’ve received from those participating has made it worth the work, and it feels so good to help more people figure out how to focus on what they want to do. I plan to create a workbook based on this challenge, so hope to be able to share that soon. If you want to go through the challenge sooner, check out my IG highlight “Seasonal Reset” and you’ll find day-by-day guidance.

Things I’m Loving: I’m going to try out a new section, focused on the things that I have been loving. First, if you’re local you know I could write a daily love letter to Root and Press, and it would still not capture my love for them. The food (with SO many great vegan options) is incredible, and I always love to pick up a good book while I’m there. Each year, I purchase Fam Jams from Burts Bees Baby for Halloween and Christmas. Our Halloween ones should be arriving any day, and I am really excited. I love a good blanket. I recently added two more Chappys to my growing collection - they are cozy, look great, easy to clean, and last forever.

101 in 1001: There aren’t any “completions” to report this month, but I continue to revisit my list each month to decide what to focus on and have a lot in progress. I’ve recently purchased baby albums for the kids, and now need to fill them! A lot of the activities on the list are fall-centric, so I’m hoping to keep ticking through next month.
